This policy explains how we decide what to publish and how we make sure it is accurate, fair and useful.

Our purpose

Pointales publishes explanatory journalism about business and technology. Each story should help readers understand something important more clearly than they did before.

Accuracy and sourcing

  • We verify facts before publication and prefer primary sources: official statistics, regulatory filings, company disclosures, court records, peer-reviewed research and direct statements.
  • We link to our sources so readers can check them. Where a source can’t be linked, we explain where the information came from.
  • We do not invent quotes, sources, experts, data or personal experiences, and we do not present opinion as fact.
  • Figures are dated and attributed. Where numbers are estimates or disputed, we say so.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made by Pointales editors alone. Advertisers, sponsors, affiliate partners and contributors do not approve or change our journalism. See our Ethics Policy.

Review before publication

Every article is reviewed by an editor before it is published. The review checks accuracy, sourcing, fairness, structure and clarity, and whether the story offers readers something they can’t easily get elsewhere.

Use of AI tools

We may use AI tools to help with research, transcription, summarising documents or checking drafts. Our rules:

  • A named human author and editor are responsible for every article.
  • Every factual claim is checked against original sources, never against an AI tool’s output alone.
  • We do not publish AI-generated images that depict real people or real events as if they were photographs. Illustrations and diagrams are clearly illustrative.

Opinion and analysis

Analysis and opinion are labelled as such and are still held to standards of accuracy.

Sponsored and affiliate content

Paid content is always clearly labelled. Details: Affiliate & Advertising Disclosure.

Updates and corrections

We update stories when facts change and show an “Updated” date when the update is material. Errors are corrected openly under our Corrections Policy.

Images

We use licensed images, our own images, and clearly illustrative graphics. Images carry captions and credits where relevant.
